The recommended dimensions of the tungsten electrode is mentioned in the diagram below. It is also necessary to have the proper sharpness of the tungsten electrode to achieve good quality welds. Tungsten electrodes used in TIG welding are somewhat expensive, but the advantage is that it can be used for a very long time. What should be the dimensions of tungsten electrode? GTAW process is also used for welding of dissimilar metals like copper with brass, stainless steel with mild steel. Gas Tungsten Arc Welding process (GTAW or TIG process) is generally used for welding of stainless steel, nickel alloys, titanium, aluminum, brass, bronze, magnesium as well as gold.
